Transit Wins "Grow Your Business" Grant |

I’m very pleased to announce that we have won a grant from the government that enables us to engage strategic advisors to help our business realise its full potential. This grant is only awarded to Victorian businesses the government recognises as innovative; particularly those who have export potential and are competition for imports.
The advisory company that we have engaged to develop Transit’s business growth plan is The Advisory Firm. Their objective is to analyse the market, the trends and opportunities, with input from some of our key clients. |
They will then help us develop business strategies that will provide the basis for the next stage of our business growth. The deliverables for this project will be: a detailed action plan which will identify our vision for the next three years; the critical objectives; and strategies, actions, responsibilities and timings.
According to research, 70% of internal change programs fail because of the lack of strategy, lack of communication and lack of resources, and 77% of companies credit corporate advising with increasing employee retention and performance. That’s why we’re excited about winning this grant and engaging The Advisory Firm to provide expert advice that will hopefully take us where we want to go!

| Transit Helps VersaCold Win Tenders |

Although VersaCold has been using the Transit software to optimise their Safeway deliveries for many years, they prefer to call on our Route Creation Services whenever any modelling for tender cost estimation is required: not only are their internal Odyssey users usually too busy with operational issues, they acknowledge that, although their staff are experts at using Odyssey for daily scheduling, we are the experts at using Odyssey for modelling.
Colin Pirret, VersaCold’s Transport Development Manager, finds that commissioning us to do Odyssey modelling for tender cost estimation is well worthwhile.
|
“I wouldn’t be confident submitting figures if I didn’t have Odyssey to back me up. I know how much I pay a driver, I know how many km’s per litre a truck does, I know how much a truck costs me – but what I don’t know is how many trucks of each size will be needed for the contract, how long each driver will work and how many km’s each truck will travel. That’s where Odyssey is invaluable.” By using our Route Creation Services, VersaCold gets access to figures to include in the tender proposal that are based on fact, rather than a gut feeling.
Colin also feels we provide a reliable service which is crucial when deadlines are so tight. “The turnaround time was good – we are often given very little time to respond to tenders and so in order to feel comfortable involving Transit we have to be able to rely on them.” And has the use of Odyssey for tender modelling been successful? “Well, we’ve won a couple of contracts using the Odyssey results, so yes - it’s definitely been successful!” Colin added.

| The Launch Of Our New Website |
|
In our Winter 2005 edition of eq, I introduced Transit’s first in-house Marketing Manager, Christina Kortesis, who at that time had just commenced a one-year part-time contract with us. The main projects Christina was to help us develop were our vision, purpose and values statement; a new look for the Transit brand; client case studies; and a new website.
I’m very excited to take this opportunity to present the result of some of Christina’s time with us, via the launch of her biggest project – our new website! |
http://www.transit.com.au
I welcome feedback from anyone willing to spend 5 minutes looking over the site. Does it look modern and fresh? Does it portray us as a client-focussed and friendly company to deal with? Do you think it suits what you know of us? Is the information you are looking for easy to find? Is it succinct and to the point?
I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the many clients who have helped us by giving in-depth interviews, testimonials and agreeing to be photographed. As our client base and reputation in the industry are key strengths of ours, we didn’t feel a website would adequately represent us without a strong client focus, which wouldn’t have been possible without our clients’ support.

| Odyssey Handy Hints - Changing A Vehicle Start Time |
 |
After you have run a schedule, if you would like to change the time an individual vehicle starts (rather than every vehicle in your schedule), you can do this by editing the trip start time. Go to the Schedule Manager, highlight the trip header (where it says Trip 1), right click on the header and go to Edit->Trip (see picture). Then enter the time you would like the vehicle to start. After this, press the recalculate button to recalculate the new start time for that vehicle.
Remember: this will not work if the start time of the vehicle is before the open time of the depot in the Depot editor.

| FAQs |
Can I import just the data I have changed, or do I have to import everything each time?
For all those users who are now using the comprehensive set as their standard import/export file, when you make a change to the data in the comprehensive set you only need to import the data you have changed. Rather than importing the entire comprehensive set that contains all the customers, orders, parameters, vehicles, depots etc., you may delete each Excel sheet or Access table within the file except the one that you changed.
Firstly, it is best to make a copy of the import file that contains everything and then create a separate copy that only contains the information you updated. For example, if you add new orders to your original import file, you then only need to import the Orders sheet, which makes the import process faster.
