Casual drivers can be a problem for us as it's hard to get continuity with the drivers. It takes a long time to train them on our business and our customer requirements. Now all we need to do is give them the Odyssey runsheet and they are told exactly where to go, in what sequence they should do each run and the time they are expected to get to there. Our training time is therefore reduced to: "Here's a set of instructions that are easy to follow, go and do it!"

As is often the case in our line of business, the driver picks the orders from the back of his truck which can take anything up to 10 mins per drop. As Odyssey works out the best sequence as part of the optimising process, we have been able to set up a system where the Odyssey schedules are uploaded back into our warehouse management system so that we can pick the orders by load and then load the trucks in reverse drop sequence. What this means is that when the driver stops at each customer, rather than picking the order from his truck or searching the truck to find the right order, his next delivery is the one that is located the closest to the back of the truck, in easy reach.
